Progression of the G425 irons
The original Ping G2 was launched in 2004. Ping increases performance year after year with small upgrades from as many design parameters as possible. The Ping G425 replaces the Ping G410 irons.
Here are the most significant upgrades:
- The G425 offers variable face thickness, just like a driver, allowing more face flex and ball speed wherever shots hit the face.
- The new head design is smaller.
- By removing weight from behind the impact zone (where Ping used to position a custom tuning port) the face can flex more freely, increasing ball speed.
- The mass is relocated to the extremities of the toe and inside the shaft tip, creating more forgiveness.

The G425s are known for providing a lot of ball speed and spin, but that also comes with forgiveness in flight. These are very well-rounded and versatile irons among mid to high-handicappers and even some lower-handicap players who prioritize consistency. And even though the distance performance is solid, the G425s offer consistent gapping between clubs, which players may find more valuable than maximum distance.
