Ping Eye 2 Golf Iron Sets

The Ping Eye 2 Golf Iron Set features a legendary design celebrated for its blend of forgiveness, distance, and control. Introduced as a pioneer in perimeter weighting, these irons feature an expanded sweet spot and increased stability, making them exceptionally forgiving on off-center hits. The signature cavity-back design optimizes the center of gravity, promoting higher launch angles and more consistent ball flights. Crafted from durable stainless steel, the Eye 2 irons provide a solid, reliable feel and long-lasting performance. The unique, more compact head design and narrow sole offer exceptional versatility and precision, particularly from difficult lies.

Top Competitors

The TaylorMade SIM 2 Max Irons are designed for mid-handicap golfers who want a balance of forgiveness, distance and feel. While not as traditional as the Ping Eye 2, the SIM 2 Max irons offer a similar level of playability with the benefit of modern technology for improved forgiveness and distance. The Mizuno JPX 921 Tour Irons targets golfers who want a blend of distance, forgiveness, and control. They use a Chromoly forged face for feel and a hollow body design for forgiveness and distance.

Progression of the Eye 2 irons

First released in 1979, the Eye set the standard for quality and performance for today's cavity-back irons. The Ping Eye first featured a V-shaped groove. Between 1984 and 1985, this became a U-shaped groove, and then it was revised to the iconic box groove. It was the box groove paired with the iconic offset and cavity-back head that gave PING that edge over the competition in terms of control.

👍 Pros
If you can't afford the new technology and want the best bang for your buck, these are the answer.
I see why even after over 30 years, these are considered the best irons of all time. Love them!
I have a new set of irons that feature a modern design. I hate them. I ordered these older Eye 2 pings. I love the way they play and the feel.
👎 Cons
Moved on from a full set of them only because of the crazy offset on them ( a love or hate thing depending on the golfer.)
So funky looking and chunky. Not for me.
Hard to hit irons, but still working on it.
The Ping Eye 2 is a classic iron set released in 1982. They have stood the test of time. They revolutionized the golf industry and are known for having a soft, light feel. These irons are designed for ease of use. The pre-worn leading edge helps with turf interaction, making it easier to get the ball airborne. While primarily designed for forgiveness, they offer decent workability for more skilled players. As a classic model, Eye 2 irons can often be found at an excellent price point. It's a great set for below-average golfers or those just getting into golf.
