CCM Extreme Flex III Hockey Goalie Full Sets

The CCM Extreme Flex III hockey goalie set is lighter and more mobile, thanks to a redesigned leg pad core that uses lightweight materials while maintaining protection. The Speed Skin technology minimizes friction with the ice, allowing for quick, explosive saves. The set features a 90 degree boot flex with torsional flex as well as a deep, ultra soft boot that allows for more freedom of movement.

Perfect goalie for:
Competitive goaltenders looking for more mobility and less mass.

Key features include:

QK5 Strapping SystemAllows for exceptional 5-hole closure. It provides a custom fit and superior mobility.
Double Stack Tapered Technology (DST)Creates a larger catching surface on the leg pads. The tapered design helps direct rebounds away from the crease.
Prime Flex Glove with D3O palmProvides a comfortable and secure fit with excellent flexibility. The D3O palm is designed to absorb impact and reduce shock.
Proven Performance BlockerBlockers have a centered palm position, which gives them a balanced, lightweight feel. The blocker face and sideboards are made from HD foam, ensuring consistent rebounds.
Lightweight ConstructionThe entire set is constructed with lightweight materials to help improve mobility and reduce fatigue.

Top Competitors

The Vapor 2X Pro prioritizes similar features to the CCM Extreme Flex III, including lightweight construction for mobility, good sealing to minimize the five-hole gap, and a comfortable, flexible catching glove. However, Bauer incorporates their own technologies like Curv Composite for leg pads and Free Flex Mobility for unrestricted butterfly movements. While True might not have the brand recognition of CCM or Bauer, their L12.2 set has gained traction among professional goalies. It offers a strong focus on flexibility and responsiveness, with features like the Fast Rotation System for quicker pad rotation and a softer pad design for better puck control.

Progression of the CCM Extreme Flex III:

The III succeeds a previous model, the CCM Extreme Flex II. Here's a breakdown of the progression.

CCM Extreme Flex II

This set offers similar core features to the III, focusing on mobility, flexibility, and a snug seal to minimize the five-hole gap. CCM started to offer a sharper design, trending away from their traditional “curves”.

CCM Extreme Flex III

The III introduced the Speed Skin material, which is similar to standard Jenpro (it has a raised surface, which causes less material to touch the ice, causing less friction, and a better slide overall). The III is lighter than the previous model. The pads are slimmer, with nylon lining the knee and leg channel. CCM also reduced the number of straps.

👍 Pros
The III does a nice job of enclosing your leg and ensuring that the outer and inner calf wraps cover your ankles.
The Eflex 3s are the real deal. Speed Skin works better than expected and way better than my older pads.
Great protection, very light, and very comfortable.
👎 Cons
I had problems when I was trying to fix some comfort issues, and it took a few skates to get the strapping right.
CCM doesn't offer a new style of stretchy lacing or toe ties. The traditional straps are removable in the boot/ankle and knee, but removing the bootstraps is frustrating and annoying.
The strapping system seems out of date and too bulky. Compared to other pads on the market, I would have expected a better system.
This is a traditional pad built for a goalie who wants a combination of mobility and flex but also a solid butterfly. A lot of goalies prefer the look of knee rolls on the front of the pad, as it leads into the traditional and flexible category. The EFlex 3 pad is known for having certain straps removed from the pad and specific ones left on the pad to help support rotation and lighter weight. The gloves had a great broken-in feel right out of the box and were known for excellent closure and craftsmanship.
