TaylorMade R1 Golf Drivers
The TaylorMade R1 driver caters to golfers seeking maximum distance and control over their drives. It features a 460cc head with a wide and deep face that is more forgiving on mis-hits and suitable for mid to low handicappers. The Adjustable Loft Sleeve provides shot-shaping control for a player to adjust for loft, lie, and face angle that will benefit almost every golfer. The Inverted Cone Technology with Movable Weights lets the sole weighting be adjusted to promote either a straight or draw ball flight. Whether you're a mid-handicapper seeking more control or a lower handicapper looking to fine-tune your game, the TaylorMade R1 Driver can be a powerful weapon in your bag.

Top Competitors
The Titleist 910D2 Driver is a strong contender in the same price range, offering similar adjustability features and a focus on distance control. A key differentiator in the 910D2 is the SureFit hosel which allows for independent adjustments of loft and lie angle. This is appealing to golfers who want more control over launch angle and face angle at impact, allowing for even finer tuning of ball flight compared to the R1's three-way adjustability system. The Callaway RAZR Fit Driver prioritizes forgiveness and a wider range of adjustability for golfers who want more flexibility. It features a large face and internal weighting technology for distance potential, similar to the R1. The key differentiator is the weight track system allowing golfers to adjust weight distribution to influence not just shot shape (draw or fade bias) but also launch angle.
Progression of the R1 driver:
TaylorMade R1 Drivers (2013) improved upon the company’s previous driver, the R11S. Due to the lower and more forward center of gravity, the R1 Driver offers slightly more ball speed and less spin than the R11S, for a high-launching and low-spinning ball flight designed to maximize overall distance.

I never had to make a single adjustment. Checking the face showed that I was hitting the sweet spot. What a great driver! |
The most adjustable golf driver. The possible settings are eye-watering and allow mere mortals to customize the club to fit without getting fitted. |
This driver puts all my other drivers to shame! I can really hit long drives with this and shot shape nicely. |
👎 Cons |

Surprisingly hollow to hit, I lost distance on my drives. |
Once I got out to the range, I found it surprisingly hollow to hit—a good 20 meters shorter! Most disappointing was that the black face was easily scratched. |
I am disappointed because this club is short—beyond average club length. If you are tall, this is not the club for you. |
This driver can be tuned to fit any player, regardless of playing ability. A bold move by TaylorMade, but understandably smart. You will first notice the graphics on the top of the club, which stand out compared to other designs. One of the most adjustable drivers on the market, this club provides maximum forgiveness. You can tweak the settings as you need or try some new lofts depending on the course you play. This club has higher-pitched sounds than you may be used to, but with twelve loft options and seven face angle settings, you will be able to adjust the R1 driver to your exact preference.
