Bacharach Peck Auer 35LH-V Leather Helmet

It is rare to see one of these come up for sale. In my years of collecting I have only seen 3 others put up for sale. This Bacharach Rasin Peck Auer 35LH-V model was one of the first two ever offered for lacrosse players and dates to the 1940s. The scarcity of these helmets is, in part, driven by their age, 70-80 years but also by their leather construction, A common point of failure has been the bill which often decays around the rivets. The other features that are representative of this helmet include a symmetrical iron face mask, a small chin pad that is attached to the mask interior and the string in the back that was used for adjustments. The early padding was limited to a thin plastic cover pad that was pressed against the sheep interior. This helmet does have a fractured plastic tab that connects the face mask to the helmet, which is common, that can be seen in a couple photos. I am considering this repair, however I am also hesitant to make any adjustments.
