Custom dyed / Professionally strung Maverik Tank 2.0 Lacrosse Head Blue fade. Strung professionally with a high pocket - using STX Memory mesh. A great head for a Defensive pole (60” shaft, FYI regular field shafts are 30”). FYI a little general experience about pockets for defense heads…. By stringing the pocket HIGH it: (A) allows the player with a 6’ pole to control a ground ball long before he’d have control with a deeper pocket. With a high pocket he can likely control the ball before he’d raises the ball (his LAX head) above his knees. (B) with a higher pocket, our player can with the flick of his wrists pass or shoot. This short throwing motion is helpful when our player is double teamed. If our player has two or three guys trying to steal the ball, it’s useful to be able to get rid of the ball fast and accurately. With a low pocket our player likely needs to make a long throwing motion thus subject to more checks. All that said, I believe there is a general propensity for players of all positions to gravitate toward at least slightly deeper pockets later in their lacrosse careers…. I often see it late High School or during College. I suppose wrist strength and better competition are the reasons why. (Just observations - every player is different and the only “right thing” to do is what works for the player!)
